Parent Education
The connection between school and home is palpable. Elements of your child's Montessori education will shine through in their every day life, even after you bring them home from school. Your child may mention vocabulary and concepts that are new to you - grace & courtesy, peace conversations, works, and much more.
At AMS, our teachers and administrators strive to create and maintain strong partnerships with parents. We achieve this through offering parent education opportunities periodically throughout the year to keep that electric current of growth, knowledge, and exploration in your child flowing.
This year, we are holding all Parent Education events on Zoom.
Parent Education Nights
Our Parent Education Nights consist of a panel of presentors, usually teachers or school community members, who open up the floor for facilitated discussion around various Montessori and child- centered topics. Topics for our Parent Education nights have included: resiliency, sibling rivalry, fostering independence, child development through a Montessori lens, eating & sleeping patterns, and more.
Parent Coffee
Parent Coffee is a casual conversation over coffee or tea after parents drop their children off at school. Our Head of School and Director of Education offer a brief presentation around a particular child-centered topic followed by lively discussion. This year, our first Parent Coffee is about how we are adapting our Montessori environments to meet the needs of learners while addressing safety protocols related to the current health crisis.
Evening Share
Have you ever wondered what your child is doing during morning work cycle? Since the Montessori environment is reserved for children only, Evening Share offers a rare glimpse inside your child's classroom. Your child will introduce and demonstrate to you the materials they have been working so diligently with. Evening Shares occur a few times per year.
Journey through the Curriculum
Journey through Curriculum is one of the most powerful and informative parent education events of the year. Join us as we explore the Montessori curriculum from Infant through Upper Elementary (ages 3 months through 6th grade). Guests at this event will experience a hands-on tour of the Montessori curriculum with guides of each level to learn firsthand how students are uniquely supported throughout each Montessori cycle and program. Every year, the Journey event focuses on a different aspect of the Montessori curriculum.
Parent/Teacher Communication
The primary method of communication between parents and teachers is through ParentSquare, our school's messaging and communication platform. Teachers share a weekly newsletter with their families through ParentSquare with pictures and highlights from the week, as well as suggestions on how to build upon what your child learns in the classroom at home. Teachers hold periodic conferences with families to discuss your child's progress and development as you move through the year together.
Montessori in the Home
Parents are invited to join Gretchen Courage in learning how to integrate Montessori principles and philosophy into your parenting and life at home.
