Children’s House/Casa de Niños Classroom Assistant(s)

Amherst Montessori School is seeking two warm, fun, nurturing, experienced, and mature full-time Classroom Assistants for our Children’s House and Casa de Niños classrooms, working with children ages 3-6 years old. 

The ideal candidate will:

  • have DEEC certification
  • know and love Montessori education  
  • have previous experience with pre-schoolers
  • have a great love for working with young children
  • have a strong work ethic
  • be detail-oriented
  • actively seek professional growth and development  
  • be a team player, with willingness to be flexible
  • be solution-oriented
  • be seeking a long-term position
  • speak Spanish (preferred, but not required)

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Prepare the classroom environment in a meticulous and organized way
  • Manage the “flow” of the classroom
  • Support children in their own resolution of conflicts and concerns
  • Be a role model for children in speech, tone, demeanor and actions
  • Serve as a record keeper of the work children are engaged in and children’s social interactions
  • Help set up for nap and lunch
  • Supervise recess and lunch
  • Supervise nap
  • Support dismissal
  • Assist with cleaning
  • Assist with toileting
  • Serve the needs of the children and community
  • Much, much more!   

Competitive Salary and Benefits

This position is 10 months a year, beginning August 20, 2018 through June 7, 2019 with occasional weekend and evening hours. Summer hours are also available. Salary range begins at $13.75 and increases based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include a paid lunch break, health, dental, paid holidays, and partial tuition remission for one qualified dependent as long as space is available.

Hours are expected to be 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 or 4:00 p.m.

Casa de Niños Classroom Assistant and Children's House Aftercare Assistant

Amherst Montessori School is seeking one warm, fun, experienced, part-time Classroom Assistant and Aftercare Assistant for our Casa de Niños/Children's House level, working with children ages 3-6 years old. 

The ideal candidate will:

  • have some knowledge of Montessori education  
  • have previous experience with pre-schoolers
  • have a great love for working with young children
  • have a strong work ethic
  • be detail-oriented
  • be a team player, with willingness to be flexible
  • be solution-oriented
  • be punctual with demonstrated consistency in work attendance
  • speak Spanish (preferred)
  • be excited to join the Amherst Montessori School community!

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Maintain the classroom environment in a meticulous and organized way
  • Assist the Lead Guide and Aftercare Lead as they transition children from recess to lunch to dismissal/naptime, and then to aftercare
  • Support children in their own resolution of conflicts and concerns
  • Be a role model for children in speech, tone, demeanor and actions
  • Help set up for nap and lunch
  • Supervise recess and lunch
  • Supervise nap
  • Support dismissal
  • Assist with cleaning
  • Assist with toileting
  • Serve the needs of the children and community

Amherst Montessori School is always looking to add qualified substitutes to our current substitute pool. Applicants must like working with children, be warm, friendly and willing to work on an as-needed basis (including during the summer months).
