Head of School

Amherst Montessori School is seeking a dynamic, positive, and collaborative leader to serve as our Head of School beginning July 1, 2019. The Head of School will be the face of Amherst Montessori School, both to our school community and to the surrounding community while balancing the myriad demands of running a small independent school.

The Head of School will work collaboratively and communicate effectively with our staff, children, families, and Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • executing and supervising efficient management and daily operations of the school;
  • marketing educational programs;
  • maintaining/growing enrollment;
  • recruiting, retaining, and developing high-quality staff;
  • complying with state regulations;
  • implementing a strategic plan;
  • nurturing our joyful and collaborative school culture;
  • implementing the mission of our organization;
  • fostering a strong school community;
  • developing and executing a fundraising plan;
  • ensuring overall financial budgets are created and adhered to; and
  • resolving challenging student/parent issues.

The Head of School's goal is to nurture a joyful and exemplary educational environment while maintaining our dedication to the Montessori pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a flexible and solution-oriented approach to challenges, a passion for Montessori, and a dedication to the joyful education of children. The candidate also should possess exceptional emotional intelligence and people skills that foster positive, productive relationships with families and staff.

Preferred applicants should have five years of experience as a school administrator or director, or five years of leadership experience in another, related industry (such as a nonprofit community service agency). Experience with Montessori education and/or private school administration preferred. DEEC Director II certification or ability to acquire it is also preferred.

Amherst Montessori School is always looking to add qualified substitutes to our current substitute pool. Applicants must like working with children, be warm, friendly and willing to work on an as-needed basis (including during the summer months).
