Every year we work with professionals and organizations outside AMS to offer extracurricular activities and lessons for our children. Please see below for details. Piano Lessons

Piano Lessons for students ages 4 and older provides piano and music fundamentals in a fun and engaging way. The Lessons Book, with accompanying CD, allows students to listen to, sing along, and play along with the songs they are learning. The Writing Book offers an opportunity for games and coloring that reinforce the musical concepts. Piano Lessons are offered on Tuesday afternoons with Laura Pierce. Laura has a Music Ed. Degree, 36 years teaching experience, and is a member of the Valley Piano Teachers Association. Group Guitar

In this group class students will learn the basics of guitar and will practice playing in a group. Students will learn basic chord structures, scales, and different strumming and picking techniques. Students will learn songs asa group and practice cooperating as a band. Students will learn to sing and play at the same time, play lead andrhythm guitar, and collaborate with other group members.

For ages 6 through 11

Private Music Lessons

AMS Music Specialist Cassie Kollman offers private after school music lessons in guitar, voice, general music, music theory, and song writing. The lessons are tailored to the needs of the individual student. Activities and lesson structure will vary based on age and student ability and interests. Students who are interested in more than one focus area may choose to study more than one subject.

Guitar: Students will be introduced to the basics of guitar technique and the building blocks for learning to playsongs. Lessons may include learning basic chord structures, scales, finger picking and strumming patterns, andbasic music theory. Students will work towards learning simple songs of their choosing.

Voice: Students will be introduced to the basics of vocal technique and get to know their own voices. Studentswill learn to feel any restrictions that are inhibiting their voices, and learn to release tension and let their voicesing out with ease. Students will be able to bring songs of their choosing to sing and will have the chance toapply technique to the music that they love.

General Music: Using the Orff educational approach, students will explore musical fundamentals barredinstruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, etc), unpitched percussion instruments, the piano and vocal music.Students will study rhythm, pitch, melody, and form. Students will apply this knowledge to play songs.General Music lessons may include an introduction to musical notation.

Music Theory: Music Theory lessons are available for elementary students who are interested in leaning moreabout the “nuts and bolts” of music, including scales, key signatures, musical notation, interval relationships.

Song Writing: Students will use music theory fundamentals to compose their own songs. Students will beintroduced to the concepts of key signatures, major and minor scales, and interval relationships.

For ages 4 through 11

Lessons are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 3:15-5:45 p.m. Students may enroll in either a 30-minute or 1-hour lesson.

MadScience: Forensics/Secret Agent Lab

Look out 007! Kids explore spy technology, decoding, gadgets and super-sleuthing in Spy Academy, then try their hands as detectives and crime-lab case solvers. It is a fascinating look at the science of secret agents, forensics, and crime scene investigation!

MiniKickers Soccer

MiniKickers is a soccer program focusing on the development of children ages 4 – 6 years old. Our soccer experts and child development professionals have designed an innovative curriculum that introduces your young soccer stars to the basic skills needed in soccer as well as developing their motor, social, and psychological skills. Our British coaches are experts at working with young children and will combine soccer with fun games; stories and music that keeps your children entertained and enthused to return next week.
